Happy Winter Solstice ~ 冬至

Tomorrow is our Chinese celebrating Dong Zhi. This is an important Chinese traditional festive day celebrate between December 22nd and 23rd. In olden days, Dong Zhi is a symbol of a day whereby the northen earth having the shortest day time and longest night time. After this day, the daytime will getting longer each day. Thats how the Dong Zhi are being talked about. We will be eating round balls in soup namely - tang yuan.

It made of glutinous rice flour mixed with a small amount of water to form balls and is then cooked and served in boiling water. Tang Yuan normally served as a sweet dessert. It can be unfilled tang yuan or filled with red bean paste, chopped peanuts and sugar. For savoury filling usually is using pork meat ball. When pink and white tangyuan are eaten in sweet broth, it is symbolise family unity and prosperity.

I miss my mum's made tang yuan. Each year, she will be having different soup served with different fillings and I'm sure having big fun rolling the balls and ask for many colours tang yuan dough. I have not been eating her tang yuan for the past 3 years. Quite miss it. Tomorrow we will be having family lunch at FIL's house and thereafter they will be leaving to HK for holiday.

To all my frinds who reading this, may you have a great time reunion with your family and friends and best wishes for happiness, health and wealth.
