Recovering at home

Since discharged, he gets better on mood, appetite and the recovery on wounds. Fever, throat infection, stomach wind and lungs wheezing are all gone and hence I stop all the medicine that brought back from hospital. Those boosting immune food and nutrition products is still carry on now and having other chinese med like "boh ying tan" and "jun ging tan".

This was his current skin condition. The front part collagen is yet to fall off, the arm is quite ok too, only there are darker patches of grafted skin is there (uneven too, as there are not much skin being stick well when bandages open up on 5th day after skin grafting operation). The thigh dried collagen is all fall off, the back is almost ok, just left the lower back is where we quite worried about.

The wound is quite deep. According to doctor on yesterday check-up appointment, there is an option for fast healing, it is to do skin graft on it or took long time to heal. We choose the later one as I confident enough it will heal. The wound is actually getting smaller each day. Currently, the wound we apply thick cream on it and cover with swab to lesser down the preasure whenever we carry and move him. It will still wet and bleed if he rub or on big movement. For other drying area, olive oil is apply on it to make it wet and also to lesser down the itchy.

Only left the back wound is pain others are more on itchy now. He will use his hand to touch the harden and dried wound area and try to sratch it off. When we will stop him doing that and he will cry. Feet skin also very dry and it is peeling off. That I'm not worried too much as it is a sign of changing skin too.

He still weak to stand or walk or may be he feel the healing part is tearing, so he dare not to move. Sometime, I saw his hand is shaking. He is moving like a robot now, for sleeping and sitting position. All is depends on me to move him on all position. The quantity of milk he is having is back to normal, only solid and water is still taking a bit lesser. Nap 3 times a day.

It is still long way to go for him to take a shower. So everyday our job is rub to clean him, then change and rub olive oil and cream. Blow dry job is cutting down now, but still will do when needed especially the back area. Special hair dryer is use for the purpose. The wind couldn't be hot or cold. We bought the same one like the one use in hospital. It is Philips Salon Shine ION hair dryer. The wind is just nice, warm like baby warmer.

I hope all these tuff days will go away sooon.

As always, my heart ache to see his condition, and what more he's so thin now. I just wish we could turn back time and prevent this from happening to him. But wishing won't do anything, so it's up to us to make him bounce back to life, like the boy he used to be... hang in there Judy. May God bless your little one and all at home... I can just feel it's all recovery from now on...

good to see your boy is recovering at home. No matter what, nothing can beats the comfort of your own home. Hope Terry recovers even faster by having daddy and mummy around.

It's good his appetite is much better. I couldn't be happier to hear that. It's a positive sign for sure. Being at home is definitely a better recovery place. Take care and big hugsss to Terry.

Itchy mean the skin is healing, is a good sign. The back part really take times as still will bleed now. But no worry as you said the wound is getting smaller everyday, it need time to dry up and heal. Wish Terry speedy recovery.

I was so terrified when I saw your son's scar nearly burst into tears now I see he is better hope for him to speed up recovery.Get well soon Terry boy.

Try not to let him take another operation if can let it heal on its own I think this have cause a big memorable scar in his life he might take some time to recover too.

Take Care judy,May god be with you with the help of good spirit to make you be strong to go through tough times with you boy.

Hi Judy, thank you so much for dropping by my blog. As a mother to a boy who is of similar age and condition, I can truly say that I understand what you & your family (and Terry) has gone through - all the nights blow-drying the wound and taking care of the little one. You certainly sound much stronger that I am. I am still a wreck. If you need someone to talk, you can get my mobile number from Angeleyes ok? I just don't want to post it on the internet.

We're using the same cream too. You mean after applying the cream, can put swab on top? None of the membrane has fallen off yet so it still looks scary. Don't worry about Terry not being back to his usual self. Afterall, Terry went through the trauma longer than Bryan. Bryan still wakes up about 5-6 times at night, crying and looking for me. Only time can help the emotional trauma they have been thru. So don't worry, ok. Your boy will be back to his usual self soon.
If you're on Facebook, you can PM me and I'll give you my number.

So happy to see improvements in Terry's recovery. It's heartbreaking seeing him lost so much weight. But don't worry too much, once his food intake is back to normal, he'll surely put them back on.

Hi Judy - Personally, I agree with Suzanne Fong that if it's possible (you and your family will know), do avoid having to give Terry another op.

The sedation makes one more tired than usual and he's already so exhausted after the accident, the treatments, the different doctors etc.

I believe he's terrified of hospitals and doctors now, the poor fella.

What Terry really wants is to make it all go away i.e. his old life before. Reading the comments here, everyone is going "poor thing", "heartache", "so painful" etc. Are people who visit Terry doing the same thing too? Also, does Terry see these pictures of him on your blog?

I'm glad there are no more photos of his burn scars after July 9. I know that if I'm suffering, I definitely don't want anyone taking photos of the burns...

Terry needs to gain back his self-confidence. Mummy can help him do that best.

I can only imagine how difficult it is for you to keep him from scratching...and also for him as he cries when you don't let him scratch.

If it's Lucas, he'll definitely slap me or yell at me - he doesn't understand why Mummy won't let him ease his pain. He's still too young to understand.

You're probably doing this already but if I were you, I'd: a) keep the "pitying" visitors to a minimum, b) try not to look too sad when cleaning his wounds, go "aiyo, aiyo", sigh etc and c) don't always talk about the burns (esp if Terry can hear)

You sound like you're really trying to give Terry his happy childhood again - focus on the healing and happy times ahead, forget about what's happened.

Terry will feel better if he hears "Look, see this part is drying up and getting better", "You can move this part already, right?" or "Last time, Mummy cleaned 6 parts...now only need to clean 4 parts. Soon...we'll be down to 3, then 2, then 1, then zero!"

It's a progress report he can understand, you know?

I too can't wait to see Terry smiling again :) His little face now is looking so, so sad for such a cute little fella. And a Thomas fan too!

Oh gosh, when you told me this afternoon I didn't tot of the burn on Terry's body is so bad till I saw the picture posted by you. I felt so heartache when I see him in this condition and I can feel the pain he is going through. It is not an easy ordeal for you to go through such incident and I could say you are very strong in taking care of him in the hospital for so many days. Glad to see him that day that he is recovering well now. Take care.
