Playing Sand Art

Last Saturday was holiday and we hang out at Ikano and The Curve after lunch at Sakae Sushi. We came out from IKEA and walk pass a balloon art stall, something caught Terry's attention, not the fancy shapes of balloon, but the colored sand tray next to it. The boy told me is coloring and keep ask to play it. All this while when I pass through this kind of colored sand art, I found it quite fun, only saw kids were playing. So, why not, now we got chance play together - our very first time!
Quite many pictures to choose from, I think I got trouble helping him to color if he choose a Ben10. I persuade him to get a Dora one, luckily he was ok with Dora. It is quite interesting doing this, when the sand spread over the sticky part, it will got stick on. When I first hold on the sticker art block, I don't know how to peel off the yellow top, cause all sticker lines are so near and close to each other. Then later I went and ask the seller and she taught me how to pick up the yellow part with the sharpened tooth-pick given.

First, need to use the tooth-pick slightly push harder over the yellow top in between the line to create place for the yellow paper to be able to pull up with fingers. Secondly, always start pulling from the outline of the picture and colored it with black. I think this peeling part Terry can't do it yet. Therefore, I was around there helping him to peel part by part and also instructing him the correct color to spread on. He enjoys working on it so much, scooping and spreading the sand carefully. I also enjoy playing it together with him.

Nothing to help me to recall what to color for Dora and Boots, the boy also play guess only. So we color it a bit free-style. Actually I got a Dora puzzle app inside my phone can refer to, but too bad that day I left my phone at home.

We spend a good 45 minutes playing this and daddy went for grocery shopping at Cold Storage. When I asked Terry is he tired, he denied it and he still can be so patient to finish everything, though I can see his eye is super tired already. Towards 80% completing he don't even allow me to help him spread the sand, he wants to do all by himself and ask me to sit down...haha..

The finishing,

The satisfied + tiring look

Terry has very good attention span. I also bought a Dora one for Chloe last year and she did not have the patience to finish it although it was smaller than the one you and Terry did. We did it at home and it was quite messy :(

Sand art seems like an fun activity that parent can enjoy with their child. It's nice to see that Terry is so persistent at completing the task.
